You may have heard him on the radio recently or been lucky enough to see him live, but DJ Rated “R” has been making hips shake since 1987 with his freestyle and Latin beats on the turntables. Like most DJs, his time spent creating mixes started off as hobby gaining him popularity in school. As his experience grew, so did his crew. But most of his career has been spent in the lone spotlight, building upon his vast musical tastes he founded while working at an NYC record store in his youth. It was at a local college party that DJ Rated “R” got his big break. Since then, he’s spotlighted on radio stations such as 97.9 La Nueva Mega, 105.9 Latino Mix, and even co-piloted Sabor Latino at WNYU 89.1 – one of the hottest underground radio stations in the tri-state area. He was also one of the main DJs for LatinFlava.com, an Internet urban website. Since then, some of the hot spots DJ Rated “R” has spun at include the legendary Copacabana, Latin Quarters, the 40/40 club, LaBoom and Cielo -- just to name a few. But his talents go beyond the borders of New York City. DJ Rated “R” can be found mixing at venues in major cities throughout the tri-state area, Boston and New Orleans, as well as various places in Florida, Texas and Pennsylvania. His musical collection of mixes includes Merengue, Salsa, Bachata, Reggaeton, Cumbia, Latin Rock, House, Dance, Hip Hop, Reggae and Freestyle. Those who have helped to influence his career include DJ's Eddie Cruz, Johnny Famolari, Norty Cotto and Baron Lopez.
